Programme structure M.Sc. MLS

This is an overview of the study structure. For details about the modules available for each section and their content, please refer to the List of Modules.

As of October 2026, the new Examination and Study Regulations and List of Modules are valid.

I. Core Studies (60 C)

  • 3 Core Modules (each 12 C)
  • 2 Advanced Modules (12 C, 7 week labrotation)
    Mind: Prerequisite for entering the Advanced Modules is passing the respective Core Module (see module description in List of Modules).

II. Professionalisation (30 C)

  • Profile module (12 C)

    • additional Core Module,
    • a Core Module from the Master's programme Developmental, Neural, and Behavioral Biology
    • modules totalling 12 C of the Master's programme Chemistry.
    • M.Bio.180 (12 C): Students project in synthetic biology
    • SK.Bio.331 (12 C): Research Internship (application form)
    • If authorised by the examination committee modules from other faculties or »assembled modules« (max 3 modules). Requires an application to the examination board.
    • On request without grading (see document "Application Final Certificate").

  • Elective Modules (6 C) (no grading in final certificate):

    • Programme specific modules (see List of Modules)
    • Additional Key Competencies

  • Key Competencies (12 C)
