The first Joint Call of the European Partnership "FOrests, forestry, and the forest-based sector: REsearch and innovation for a Sustainable Transition" (FOREST) will be published on 15 September 2026. A webinar for interested applicants will take place on 17 September 2026 (10:00 CET). Participants will receive an overview of the call and a brief introduction to the submission and evaluation system. The scope and topics of the Joint Call derive from the official Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) underpinning the partnership. The precise topics are still to be defined by the participating funders; however, the call will encourage and make best use of cross-sectoral, coherent and integrated perspectives:
- TOPIC 1 – Climate-Resilient Forest Systems;
- TOPIC 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems;
- TOPIC 3 – Timber and Innovative Wood-Based Products;
- TOPIC 4 – Forest Value Chains, Markets and Governance;
The FOREST Joint Call 2026 is currently in pre-announcement phase. The thematic areas presented are indicative and remain subject to final review and approval. The final call text, including topics, participation conditions and budgets, will be published at the official launch of the call.
Each consortium participant will be funded by the funding organisation from its country/ region participating in this joint transnational call. Participants are therefore subject to the eligibility criteria of national/ regional funding organisations. Each proposal must respect the general international and national/ regional eligibility criteria. Please note that maybe not every country will fund all call topics. The detailed lists of eligibility and evaluation criteria will be published in the Call document. Each applicant has to check the project idea with the national contact point as early as possible in the pre-proposal phase, at the latest before submitting any applications.
In addition, on 06 October 2026 (10:00 CET), the FOREST partnership will host a networking webinar to facilitate partner matchmaking and support the formation and development of consortia.
