E-Prüfungsraum

Rooms

The e-examination room in the “Blauer Turm” was put into operation in March 2013 and can be used by all faculties of the University of Göttingen. The room had previously been used for a departmental library and was then adapted to the special conditions of an examination room by extensive remodelling. In the beginning of 2019, the room was expanded from the original 100 to 112 workplaces.

Due to the dynamic occupancy situation of the e-examination rooms, especially during the examination periods of the semester, the use of these rooms for lectures or seminars that take place continuously throughout the semester is only possible in exceptional cases.

Furthermore, since July 2025 we have a second e-exam room (ZHG 1.140), located just a few meters from EPR I and directly opposite the small public computer area in the ZHG. The room was created from three former seminar rooms and has also been optimized in terms of layout and equipment for conducting electronic examinations. A special feature of EPR II is an additional separate room that allows students with accommodations to take their exam in a sound-reduced environment.
In both rooms we provide earplugs and scrap paper to ensure a smooth examination experience for students.
If you are interested in conducting your e-exams with us, please contact us by email at epruefungen@uni-goettingen.de. We will then coordinate all scheduling and room arrangements with you according to your needs.

Technology

One special aspect of using our computers, compared to computers in regular seminar rooms, is that electronic exams can be conducted using the Safe Exam Browser (SEB). SEB is a browser specifically configured for legally secure electronic examinations and prevents the use of unauthorized software as well as access to external storage devices and the internet. If required, SEB can grant access during the exam to applications that are intentionally permitted (such as calculators, text editors, PDF and image viewers, word processing programs, or specialized software such as statistics tools). If you require applications for your exam that we do not currently provide, please contact us at the beginning of the semester so that we have sufficient time to determine how your needs can best be supported technically.

In addition, the particular conditions of a summative in-person exam are taken into account by using low-noise computers and keyboards. In order to provide an ergonomic seating position for as many students as possible, the monitors in EPR II are placed on top of the desks, allowing both seat and screen height to be adjusted to individual needs. To prevent cheating attempts, the monitors in EPR I are embedded into the desk surface and equipped with privacy filters. If students encounter difficulties viewing or reading content, the zoom function in SEB or in the respective applications may help. EPR II, in turn, features divider panels between individual workstations.
