Introduction to Statistics for PhD Students (GGG/GSGG/GFA/GAUSS) in person

PhD students of all four Göttingen Interdisciplinary Graduate Schools

Schedule:
The course will take place on 1.-2. and 8.-9. of September, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m..
The afternoon sessions will be dedicated to practical exercises that can be done in groups or individually.

This course gives an overview over some core principles of Statistics. It is best suited for beginners and those who would like to refresh their knowledge about Statistics for their PhD.
The course will cover the following topics:

  • Descriptive statistics and basic graphical visualization
  • The idea of statistical inference
  • Statistical testing
    • T-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA)
    • Nonparametric tests
  • Basics of regression analysis
    • Linear models
    • Generalized linear models
    • Mixed models



Credits: 1 ECTS
Requirements: Participants will receive a certificate of attendance if requested. Moreover, there is the option of receiving 1 Credit if submitting an additional homework of 3-4 pages.
