Illness/absence from ZESS courses

If the module description requires proof of regular and active participation, students who do not attend at the start of the course will be de-registered from the course by ZESS in FlexNow. (See ZESS examination regulations para. 5 (5)).

    Without prior excuse:
Students who are absent for more than 60 minutes of the first teaching unit at the start of the course without notifying the ZESS via the excuse form will be deregistered from the course by the ZESS in FlexNow and will be given the lowest priority in the next lottery.

    With prior excuse:
If you would like to participate in the course despite being absent at the start of the course, you must notify us of your absence at least 3 hours before the start of the first lesson. Please use the excuse form for this purpose. In this case, you will not be de-registered. In case of illness, please submit a medical certificate immediately (within three working days) using the excuse form. As we as a university have no way of accessing digital sick notes from students, please ask your doctor to provide you with a paper copy.
If the module description requires proof of regular and active participation, students are required to attend all designated course dates; compulsory attendance applies from the time of registration for the course. (See APO (eng transl.: General Examination Regulations) para. 14 (5))

    The following absence regulations apply:

For a course with 4 SWS, eight teaching units of 45 minutes each are permitted as absences; for a course with 2 SWS, four teaching units of 45 minutes each are permitted as absences (without medical certificate). The absence is considered ‘unexcused’.

In the event of absence due to illness, please fill out the excuse form immediately (within three working days) (medical certificate required). As we as a university have no way of accessing digital sick notes from students, please ask your doctor to provide you with a paper copy. The absence is considered ‘excused’.

If the course at ZESS is a compulsory course and you are attending another compulsory course with compulsory attendance at the same time, please also fill out the excuse form (proof of compulsory attendance at the other course is required).

This currently applies to the following degree programmes in connection with the listed module:

    • Students of ‘Biology’ and ‘Biological Diversity and Ecology’: Scientific English I

depending on the respective study regulations. The absence is considered ‘excused’.

If the excused absences exceed the above-mentioned permitted absence, a substitute performance must be provided as a prerequisite for admission to the examination (in consultation with the coordinator of the respective department).

If the unexcused absences exceed the above-mentioned permitted absence, you are no longer eligible to take the examination and will be given the lowest priority for the next lottery.
In the event of illness during examinations, please fill out the excuse form immediately (medical certificate required). As we as a university have no way of accessing digital sick notes from students, please ask your doctor for a paper copy and upload it.

If an overlap between an examination at ZESS and another examination is unavoidable, please fill out the excuse form (proof of the other examination required).

You will be given the opportunity to take the make-up examination. Please register for this via FlexNow by the relevant deadlines!
